Sensors & Effectors
Action 1: AirHub incorporates a sensor that constantly analyses the surrounding environment’s temperature (and humidity) to trigger the air conditioning/heating (or humidity) fan to react if levels are outside the optimal ambient temperature range.
Action 2: Since AirHub is designed to create a personalised environment for passengers, the aim is that they become so immersed in their own hub that they forget they’re flying! However, the issue is that it can reduce awareness of the wider surroundings. The dual ultrasonic sensor is incorporated into AirHub in order to analyse movement around the hub to relay vital information back to the passenger via the LCD screen. In this case, when mealtime is about to begin and when the meal arrives at the specific passenger’s seat.
Action 3: The RGB LED is designed to create transitional mood lighting within each AirHub and to mimic the stars in the night sky. AirHub uses the soft potentiometer to respond to its immediate environment based on the passenger’s pressure on the sides of the AirHub (ie. when they are resting their head or sleeping). To avoid distraction or interruption of a passenger’s sleep, it then triggers the RGB LED to change to white and dim – replicating the night sky with twinkling white stars to help minimise jet lag.
